This creative pathway is designed for individuals with a strong interest in Art & Design, particularly painting, drawing, printmaking, illustration, graphic design and animation. Rooted in strong studio practice, the course encourages you to develop traditional artistic skills while also exploring experimental and digital approaches to image-making and visual storytelling.
You will work in a studio environment that encourages curiosity, individuality, and creative risk-taking while developing a professional portfolio for university, apprenticeships, Foundation courses, or careers within the creative industries.You will explore a range of specialist areas, including drawing and painting, illustration and visual storytelling, and printmaking, while also developing skills in mixed-media and collage.
The course introduces digital drawing and creative software alongside techniques such as stop-motion and 2D animation, allowing you to combine traditional and digital practices. Throughout your studies, you will also focus on sketchbook development and creative research, helping you to generate ideas, refine your skills, and build a strong creative process.
4 GCSEs grade 9-4 (A*-C) or a related Level 2 vocational qualification (at merit or higher), including English and maths. Equivalence of these qualifications will be considered. Plus, an art portfolio containing recent creative work you
have done.

The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art & Design prepares students for progression into specialist courses at the degree level, Higher National Diploma, or Foundation Degree programs at universities and, as well as careers in the creative industries.

The assessment process for the Art & Design Level 3 UAL Diploma is primarily based on coursework, with students evaluated on their practical work, creative processes, and final outcomes.In addition to the coursework, students may also participate in final major projects and exhibitions, where their work is showcased and assessed by both tutors and external examiners.During the course, there are regular feedback sessions where students receive guidance on improving their work, allowing for continuous development throughout.
