At Croydon College, we provide a wide range of programmes and support for learners with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND), as well as additional learning support (ALS) for any student who requires extra help to reach their full potential. We work closely with students and their families to create tailored programmes that nurture individual strengths, build confidence, and support personal and academic growth.
Our SEND and ALS courses are designed to help students develop essential life skills, independence, and employability. Specialist pathways include practical learning in areas such as food preparation, IT, communication, teamwork, and much more. Students can also develop English and Maths skills, taking functional skills or GCSEs where appropriate. Most students are fully integrated into wider College life, taking part in activities such as sports, the annual Freshers’ Fair, and the Job Fair.
The ALS team supports students with a wide range of needs, including dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, dyspraxia, autism spectrum conditions, sensory impairments, physical disabilities, medical conditions, ADHD, and social or emotional mental health conditions. Support may include one-to-one or small-group tuition, personalised exam arrangements, advice and guidance for well-being and careers, and liaison with internal and external services. Every student who discloses a learning difficulty or disability is offered a confidential interview to create an individual support plan, which is regularly reviewed to maximise progress and independence.
Our specialist SEND and ALS teams include experienced tutors and support assistants who work closely with subject teachers, cross-college services, and external organisations. Room 100 provides a welcoming, inclusive environment where students can develop social skills, access the Learning Resource Centre, IT suite, art room, gym, and integrate with the wider College community in a safe and supportive setting.
