Online Learning in Learning Difficulties – Level 2 TQUK

There are no specific entry requirements for this course; however, learners should have at least a Level 1 qualification in literacy or an equivalent credential. Our Level 1 and 2 distance learning courses are available free of charge for those eligible for government funding, provided you meet the following criteria:
- Age Requirement: Must be 19 years or older.
- Ages 19-23: You must hold a full Level 2 qualification or higher, such as five GCSEs or O Levels at grades A-C (or 9-4), two or three AS Levels, one A Level, NVQ Level 2, First Certificate, or Principles of Learning Level 2.
- Ages 24 and Over: No qualifications are required.
- Enrolment Status: You must not be enrolled in any other distance learning course with us.
- Residency Requirement: You must have been living in the UK for the last three years.

This Course Includes the Following Units:
- Unit 1: Understand Specific Learning Difficulties

In this unit, learners will explore the concept of specific learning difficulties (SpLDs). You will research the characteristics of various difficulties and co-occurring conditions, while also gaining insight into common misconceptions. The unit emphasizes the importance of recognizing that a specific learning difficulty is a lifelong condition and introduces the term ‘neurodiversity’ in relation to these challenges.
- Unit 2: Understand the Effects of Specific Learning Difficulties

This unit examines how specific learning difficulties impact not only the individuals affected but also those around them. You will learn how the attitudes of others can influence an individual’s experience, and identify both internal and external factors that can affect those with SpLDs. The unit will also highlight the strengths and barriers individuals may encounter and how these can shape their experiences.
- Unit 3: Understand the Diagnosis of Specific Learning Difficulties

In this unit, learners will understand the critical importance of early diagnosis for specific learning difficulties and the repercussions of delayed or missed diagnoses. You will investigate the diagnostic process across various age groups and identify the professionals involved in this essential procedure.
- Unit 4: Understanding Supporting Individuals with Specific Learning Difficulties

This unit focuses on effective support strategies for individuals with specific learning difficulties in various settings. You will learn about different coping strategies and assistive technologies that can be utilized to aid individuals. Additionally, the unit will explore the roles of various professionals in providing comprehensive support.
- Unit 5: Understand the Context of Specific Learning Difficulties

In the final unit, learners will gain insight into the historical evolution of attitudes, legislation, and services designed to support individuals with specific learning difficulties. You will learn how national Special Educational Needs legislation and policies are implemented at the local level, fostering a better understanding of the context in which these supports operate.

Upon completion of this course, learners may have the opportunity to advance to higher-level distance learning courses in related fields. This progression allows individuals to deepen their knowledge and expertise, further enhancing their professional qualifications.

Throughout the course, learners will be assessed by answering a series of questions. These assessments will be submitted through the online learning platform, EQUAL, and evaluated by the tutor. Learners will receive feedback for each completed assessment, ensuring they can track their progress and improve their understanding.
