I chose to become part of the UNICEF Steering Group at Croydon College as it focuses on volunteering and human rights and it is great for personal development. The college is great as it is the only rights respecting college in the UK. Also it is very friendly here – before joining the college I was able to speak with lecturers and I was made to feel very welcome. I also enjoy the mix of academic and enrichment activities that you can do here. As part of the UNICEF Group, I have participated in parliament meetings and I have volunteered in intergenerational events which have been fun and rewarding. The public speaking training has also improved my confidence. When my time at Croydon College finishes I would like to find a career that incorporates both the academic and enrichment skills that I have gained here.
