Education is open to all and at Croydon College, we welcome applications from mature students.
The Access to Higher Education Diploma is a qualification designed for people who want to apply to university or other higher education courses but don’t have the entry qualifications such as A Levels or BTECs. It is similar to a university foundation year as both are designed to get people up to the right standard in order to continue on to a higher level course.
Who is the Access to HE Diploma for?
It is designed for adults (aged 19 and above) who may have been out of full-time education for some time or those who want to apply to university but don’t have the required qualifications. Some may be considering a career change.
How will I pay for the course?
If you are aged 19-23 and don’t already have a full Level 3 qualification your Access course will be fully funded. Otherwise, if you are aged 19+, you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost of your Access to HE Diploma course. The loan will be paid directly to your college (or whoever is running the course) on your behalf. Student Finance England will ‘write off’ any outstanding Advanced Learner Loan balances you owe for an Access to HE course once you complete a higher education course. The Access to HE Diploma is the only qualification that offers this loan waiver. It is important you have your loan approved at the beginning of the academic year to avoid having to pay the full course fee.
Our range of Level 3 Diploma titles include:
- Business and Law
- Psychology & Mental Health
- Policing and Criminology
- Health & Social Care
- Nursing in Work – 2 day
- Nursing & Health Sciences – Diploma title Health and Human Science
- Social Work
- Teaching in Primary Education
Students wishing to progress to a university degree course after completion of their Access to HE course should apply via UCAS.
Pre-Access to Higher Education
The Pre-Access course is ideal if you would like to enter the Access to Higher Education course but haven’t got the necessary GCSE or Functional Skills grades. It is suited to adults who have been out of education for some time and who need to re-learn how to study at a higher level before progressing onto the intensive Access programme.
