English for Progression – Adults (ESOL)
Course Overview
This course is for you if you speak English as a second or other language. We offer exciting classes to help you improve your skills from Pre-Entry to Level 1 which are taught in 2½ days per week in College.
As well as improving your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills you will prepare to progress to another college course or the next level of English.
You will also improve the skills you need to either get a job or improve the skills you already have such as working in a team, communication skills and researching future careers.
You will have the opportunity to attend different events at the College which are attended by employers so you can find out about different career choices.
You will have tutors who will help you be successful and make sure you are prepared for your next steps in your learning.

Assessment
The employability parts of your course are assessed using practical tasks and activities which you do in class and collect as a portfolio.
Functional skills are assessed using practical exams which you take when your teacher feels you are ready.
Career Opportunities and Further Study
You can progress from one level of our English for Progression courses to the next.
After Entry Level 3 you are ready to progress into employment or onto any of the courses offered by the College at Level 1.
Many students from Level 1 go onto higher level courses but continue with their English studies with us at Level 2.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements. We test your abilities before you start and place you on the course that best fits the skills you already have.
You must show at interview that you are committed to full time studies and keen to develop all of your work skills, not just your English.
English for Progression – Short Courses (ESOL)
Course Overview
This course offers short English programmes for those who need ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) qualifications to progress in life and work in the UK.
Each course covers one skill and leads to a qualification (Cambridge Award) in Reading, Writing or Speaking and Listening.
The course is ideal if you are a working migrant or if you need an award to progress into further studies. The course will also give you a formal qualification if you need to progress in your job at times which fit in around work.
You can study either during the daytime or in the evenings on this course.

You will learn with people from all over the world and be able to take part in different activities such as fun classes which use games, music, and your daily experiences to build your confidence with English.

Assessment
Reading and Writing courses involve an exam. Speaking and listening courses are assessed by a practical assessment with a Cambridge examiner.
You will have plenty of support and practice from excellent tutors who help you prepare for the exams.
Career Opportunities and Further Study
Many successful students continue their studies in a different skill at the same level. Others choose to continue with the same skill at a higher level.
Improving your English skills can help you in any career, and many of our learners are promoted at work because of the improvements they made to their English skills.
