I chose to do an Apprenticeship in Business and Administration at Croydon University Hospital to gain experience to help me get a step onto the career ladder and potentially move into estate agency. I am enjoying my apprenticeship thoroughly; since the beginning things have just been getting better for me. I would say that I was nervous at the start because I felt a bit under-experienced, but this was my first ever administration role, so who wouldn’t? I didn’t do very well in my A Levels and I’m not that much of an academic person. My first job was a retail role and then I was working on and off as a labourer for my dad’s business. However, this apprenticeship has allowed me to develop a lot of skills, such as my IT skills, and I’ve gained knowledge of different types of systems and processes as well as a general appreciation for the human resources environment. I’ve definitely gained confidence and a greater desire to progress too. I’m currently in the process of applying to move into the role that I am covering permanently from when the apprenticeship ends. I really want to develop myself with more in-house training and through more experience. Ideally, I would like to move higher within the trust, possibly to management level. However, if I exhaust all routes of progression here, I may move to another hospital or think about doing a level 3 apprenticeship.
