Leisure Courses Starting Spring 2023
Croydon College is pleased to offer a range of creative arts courses for adults, starting in Spring 2023. Indulge your creativity with this suite of beginners’ courses and learn new skills!
Floristry
Do you love to work with the beauty of flowers? Our brand new evening course for adults will teach you how to identify and treat flower materials properly and the fundamentals of arranging and designing floral materials. Whether you are looking to take the first steps on a change of career or simply indulge in a new hobby, our course could be just what you’re looking for.
Course starts on Wednesday 19th April and will run over 6 weeks, 6-8:30pm. Cost: £150.

Ceramics
Get stuck into the creativity of ceramics and enjoy working with your hands with our brand new, specialist short course for adults. Whether you’ve never worked with ceramics before or are looking to perfect your technique, you’ll enjoy studying in our dedicated facilities. Your specialist tutor will guide you as you gain hands-on knowledge of ceramic materials and techniques including how to make an earthenware serving bowl and terracotta platter. Develop practical skills in press moulding, coiling, decorative slip techniques and glazing. You will learn about the kiln firing cycle. Learn how to work safely in a pottery workshop.

Photography
Do you want to gain a better technical understanding of your camera work and explore or develop your creative digital photography skills? With our brand new evening course for adults, your specialist tutor will teach you how to use a DSLR or digital camera and help you develop your photographic skills and techniques in our specialist digital photography workshop. The course will provide you with the basic practical skills needed to get the most from your digital camera both technically, and aesthetically as you improve your composition skills.
Course starts on Tuesday 18th April and will run over 6 weeks, 6-8:30pm. Cost: £150.

Printmaking
Our brand new beginner’s evening course will introduce participants to a range of printmaking processes including drypoint, carborundum, relief and mono-printing using the beautiful intaglio and Albion presses in our printmaking studio. Each week you will be introduced to a new process and be given the opportunity to explore the technique, layering your knowledge as the course progresses. All required tools and materials for the course will be provided including non-toxic inks and standard papers. (Specialist printmaking papers and additional materials will be available to purchase where requested.)
Course starts on Tuesday 18th April and will run over 6 weeks, 6-9pm. Cost: £180.

Learn to Paint
Have you always wanted to learn how to paint but not known where to start? Do you love to paint but want to learn more to unleash your creativity? Our new beginner’s course will allow you to drip the paint, dab the canvas and splash the colour in exciting ways as you explore a wide range of mediums in our dedicated painting studio. You will learn the techniques of composition, tonal exercises, shapes, forms, perspective and observational works. All required tools and materials for the course will be provided including watercolour, acrylic, dry and oil pastel and oil paint and standard papers. (Specialist papers, canvas and additional materials will be available to purchase where requested.)

Learn to Draw
Love to draw but want to hone your skills? Want to learn to draw but don’t know where to begin? Our brand new evening course for adults will uncover the foundations of drawing by experimenting with a variety of materials and techniques, support by our expert tutor. We will look at proportion, mark-making, shape, tonal qualities, and composition with a focus on anatomy, still life, architecture, and portraits. Learn the tools you need to evolve both personally and artistically.
Course starts on Wednesday 19th April and will run over 6 weeks, 5:30-8:30pm. Cost: £150.

Learn to Sculpt
Do you have an interest in sculpture? Do you like to get creative in 3D? This new introductory course will introduce you to the skills you need to design and create a 3D sculpture using mixed media. You will explore how to create plan drawings, attaching to a platform, build an armature, build forms through layers and finish your artwork.
Course starts on Wednesday 19th April and will run over 6 weeks, 6-8:30pm. Cost: £150.

Multiply
Do you have trouble helping your children with their maths homework? Would you like to get more confident with numbers? Multiply is a new FREE fully-funded programme of three courses to help adults across the UK to improve their numeracy skills.
Whether you’re looking to boost your number skills to progress at work or to help with daily tasks, Multiply could be the next step in unlocking your number confidence.
The suite of three courses includes:-

- Multiply – Supporting Your Child With Maths
- Multiply – Manage Your Money
