The Croydon College Group has a number of new post-16 courses coming this September, giving residents opportunities to launch careers in a range of specialities.
Headed up by an innovative Esports BTEC endorsed by the British Esports Association, Croydon College is also introducing Level 2 courses in Barbering and Hospitality – as well as a Level 3 course in Gym Instructing and Personal Training. At Coulsdon there are courses in Criminology, Aviation Operations, Air Cabin Crew and Photography – all adding to the BTEC, A Level and T Level offer from September.
The game-changing Esports course, available as both a Level 2 and Level 3 qualification, will give students the opportunity to start a career in a fast-growing industry worth more than £1billion. The Level 2 course will prepare learners for work or an Apprenticeship by giving them the opportunity to develop sector-specific knowledge, technical and practical skills, as well as the chance to apply these skills in work-related environments – along with progression to the Level 3 qualification.
The Level 3 course is aimed at people wanting to progress to employment in the Esports industry or may wish to enter Higher Education – with many universities offering degrees in the subject. It will be recognised by employers and could lead to a job as an esports player, team coach, social media influencer, data analyst and much more.
The Barbering course, also new for 2022, will provide learners with the necessary skills and knowledge that prove occupational competence as a junior barber, including customer service and generic employability skills.
The new Level 2 Hospitality course is ideal for anyone either in or wanting to move in to the food and beverage service industry – giving people the opportunity to get the skills needed to deliver a great dining experience, gaining experience in areas including food service, food safety, handling payments, bookings, serving beverages, bar service and menu design.
And for those wanting to help others achieve their fitness goals and maintain healthy lifestyles, there is a Level 3 BTEC in Gym Instructing and Personal Training course launching this September. Mapped to the CIMSPA (Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity) Gym Instructor and Personal Trainer professional standards, this course is designed to provide the knowledge and skills required to work in that sector.
Coulsdon’s Photography A Level focuses on visual communication skills as well as encouraging students to develop creative, innovative methods of expressing their personal ideas as they carry out projects, in-depth research and critical analysis of the work of other photographers, designers and artists, use black and white photographic dark room techniques and experiment with digital media.
The Aviation Operations BTEC Level 3 will see students learn about the UK aviation industry, health and safety and security in this sector and onboard passenger operations, with a trip to the British Airways training centre and students will actively take part in role plays throughout the year in the classroom aircraft cabin.
Coulsdon’s Level 2 Air Cabin Crew course prepares students for progression to the BTEC level 3 courses in Travel and Tourism and Aviation Operations, as well as a good foundation for a Cabin Crew apprenticeships and other employment within the aviation industry.
