Apprentice Vanessa Stubbs gave us an overview of her experience at the college.

Hi Vanessa, before taking part in the apprenticeship scheme, what were you doing?

Before applying to take part in the apprenticeship scheme, I was working for the Pension Protection Fund as a Project Management Office Analyst, whilst assisting in the delivery of some major projects and leading on some minor projects where required.

I decided to do an apprenticeship because I was interested in enhancing my skills within the team and wanted to become a project manager. This therefore seemed like a route that would offer me that opportunity.

Why did you choose Croydon College?

I chose Croydon College as it was one of the two options of training providers, however, of the two, Croydon College offered onsite training – which ended up being mainly virtual as we went straight into lockdown period just as I started the apprenticeship!

What stage are you at now?

I have now completed my apprenticeship with a final Distinction grade, which I am very pleased with.

My current job role is now that of a Project Manager, as following my end results, I was offered a promotion into a project management role.

This apprenticeship has given me a huge confidence boost in becoming the person I am today, not only in the skills I have learned, but also in helping me become an individual with confidence in my abilities.

What has been the best part about completing your apprenticeship at Croydon College?

My tutor, Michael, has been instrumental in helping me achieve the grade that I received. Particularly so as the entire training was done remotely, where sometimes the whole experience could feel a bit isolating, but he was able to motivate and encourage me along the whole process.

My plan for the future is to continue to develop my skills and become more confident in my job role, especially now as I have been offered a permanent position on the team.

Overall, I am pleased I did this apprenticeship and despite some difficult moments, I would do it all over again.

If you are interested in earning whilst you learn and want to equip yourself with all the tools you need to kick-start your career, apply now for an apprenticeship.
