On Thursday 22nd March 2018, a number of our Student Executive Representatives attended Croydon Town hall for the hustings of local councillors for the local elections in May.

The event was hosted by Citizens UK who work in partnership with Croydon College for a number of projects including the recent Knife Crime awareness campaigns that were held in and around Croydon town centre.

Student president, Mingyuan Ma gave a speech on behalf of the Croydon College student body regarding their wants for a safer environment and the hope that this is considered for the future councillors’ plans. The student reps then presented their hand print pledges against violence to the audience.

Level 2 Art and Design student and member of the Croydon Council Youth Forum Jordon Georgestone-Lettman was also in attendance, supporting Citizens UK as the event timekeeper.

Hans Svennevig, Head of Citizenship and Progression at the college said, ‘In recent weeks students have participated in active citizenship collecting hand print pledges against violence from members of the public at the Whitgift Centre and college open events – these were presented to councillors running for election in May at the hustings to encourage them to have Youth issues at the forefront of their election campaigns.’
