Students at Croydon College and Coulsdon Sixth Form College are getting involved in a full range of enrichment activities in our Do More, Be More Virtual Enrichment programme, to help them embrace the new normal and participate in virtual sessions to learn new skills and enjoy themselves.

Restrictions have meant that face-to-face lessons and enrichment activities have now moved online, but that won’t stop our students getting involved in activities ranging from learning Mindfulness techniques to how to decorate biscuits on a budget!

Since the announcement that Colleges were to close, with the exception of students who have allocated social workers, are categorised as looked after children, have an Education, Health and Care Plan (‘EHCP’), or do not have access to online learning at home, we have rolled out virtual learning using ZOOM, which all staff and students are now extremely familiar with, and the use of the software has meant that the transition to virtual enrichment has been seamless and easy.

Vicky Chainey Director of Student Support Services, says ‘Enrichment sits alongside what students learn academically and is so important to give every student an opportunity to learn a new skill, meet new people and just make themselves a more rounded person. It’s about having fun as much as it is learning too.’

‘This year is obviously different to previous years in that the activities have moved online, but it’s great to see that the students are still getting involved in big numbers and taking a lot out of what’s on offer. Not only that, but it’s great to see so many of our staff embracing this opportunity and sharing their skills and/or hobbies with students. It’s just another example of how our staff go above and beyond to support our students in their learning.’
