On the 27th of March, 12 Croydon College students attended the Regional Final of the FE Maths Challenge!
The Further Education (FE) Maths Challenge, a significant event in the academic calendar, is an exciting competition organised by MEI (Maths Education Innovation) for post-16 students. It involves 13 regional centres, 61 colleges, and over 25,000 students. This competition is designed for 16-19-year-old students who have not yet achieved grade 4 in GCSE maths, aiming to boost their confidence and motivation on their academic journey.
The competition journey began in December, just before the winter break, with the first round. This was followed by a college final in February, and the cross-college regional final took place at Christ The King sixth form College, the Regional Centre of London South-East.
The competition has three entry categories: The Funkies, Ein2steins, and Go Forth. Students were grouped according to their math performance.
Amongst the competing colleges were students from Southwark College, Kingston College, Carshalton College, Merton College, South Thames College,…
The following students represented Croydon College in the three categories:
Samuel Adanse, Modupeoluwa Adeosun Eric Lungu and Shobika Vijayasuthan (Funkies)
Jamie Draddy, Ropafadzo Mutongwizo, Rethul Pillai and Benjamin Oppong (Ein2teins)
Tracy Kumi, Eric Nyobi, Richard Buasilenu and Jomiloju Fatogun (GoForth)
Ein2teins won the FIRST prize, and GoForth won the THIRD prize!

Congratulations to all of you!
Let’s take a moment to reflect on the impact of the FE Maths Challenge on our students. In the previous competition, 80% of our students felt a significant boost in their confidence in mathematics. This is a testament to the transformative power of such competitions. It’s inspiring to see how it has enhanced their confidence in taking the maths exam, with 70% of students believing so. Let’s keep this momentum going!
We’re looking forward to our student success in their exams now! Keep the momentum!
