The Croydon College World of Work Team joined forces with the Croydon Constructing Excellence Club and Croydon Commitment on the 18 March to deliver a webinar aimed at encouraging people to consider a career in Construction and Engineering.
Ten local companies took part including Mott MacDonald, L&Q, Willmott Dixon, IRS, Tisserin Engineers and Aecom who all hosted their own breakout rooms where attendees could get one to one advice about opportunities to start, restart or upskill their careers in these two thriving industries.
Simon Friend, Head of Apprenticeships at Croydon College said ‘This event is a great example of how we work closely with employers across all sectors to promote opportunities for students of all ages whether that be via apprenticeships, industry placements or online learning. In addition, we are an appointed Kickstart Gateway so can offer fully funded work placements to suitable candidates and employers. Stephen Parker, Chair of the Croydon Constructing Excellence Club and Head of partnerships at Willmott Dixon added “with so many construction and engineering companies currently based and active in the borough, the Club is delighted to be able to support this important initiative to encourage more local people into local jobs”
More events are being planned and Melinda Ashford from Croydon Commitment, the CSR charity that encourages businesses to volunteer their time, urged other companies to get in touch to support future activity under the new Ways 2 Work employability programme being run by the charity “this is a great example of what Croydon Commitment does best – collaborating with businesses to support the local community and we look forward to working on future events with the College and Constructing Excellence Club”
