We are so proud of our former student, Gareth Southgate!

Current England Team manager Gareth Southgate studied at Croydon College between 1987 and 1989.  He successfully completed our City & Guilds Certificate for Recreation and Leisure Industries as part of The Footballers Further Education & Vocational Training Society Youth Training Scheme.

Jim Earl (recently retired from the college) taught on the course and clearly remembers Gareth Southgate as a natural leader and someone that stood out in the class.

Gareth was a very bright and likeable student.  He was successful and completed all elements of the course.  He was popular within the group and had a great sense of humour while at the same time he paid attention to detail in his academic work

When at the College, Gareth showed good leadership qualities and was always nominated by his peers and staff to give the after dinner speeches at the annual YTS Footballers’ Lunch

All staff and students at the College would like to send a huge well done for their achievements so far to Gareth and the England Football Team and a massive good luck for the semi-final.

We have every faith you can go all the way.
