We are delighted to announce Croydon College’s very own Valeria Panyko has been nominated for ‘Maths Teacher of the Year’ at the Skills Awards 2019 taking place on Tuesday 12th March 2019 at The King Power Stadium in Leicester.

Valeria has also recently gained the Advanced Teacher Status from the Education and Training Foundation, 1 of only 23 Further Education Teachers in the UK to receive this status. Achieving ATS requires individuals to demonstrate they are practising at the level of an advanced professional in relation to 20 Professional Standards, which span professional values, knowledge and understanding and skills.

Valeria said

“Being a maths teacher, preparing my 16-18 years old students and adult learners for their GCSE or Functional Skills Maths exams often gives me the opportunity to reflect on my practice. Daily challenges and the changing curriculum make me think about how to enhance my teaching, engage my students and make them feel more positive and motivated about a subject I consider to be a foundation for our everyday lives. Completing ATS has been an extremely exciting journey for me. It highlighted the significance of team work and enabled me to develop and explore new resources and ideas. I would like to say a huge thank you to our fantastic Maths Team”

All Staff and Students at Croydon College wish Valeria the best of luck, we are sure she will bring back the award.
