Why did you apply to Croydon College?

I applied to Croydon College because when I visited an event I really liked the feeling of the place. There is a lot of space and great facilities to help you develop. I also really liked all the staff who are so welcoming, but especially my tutor Pete!

You recently took part in Falmouth School of Art’s CCC Challenge. Tell us more about this.

My Art tutor Pete first informed me of the CCC (Creative, Connected, Courageous) challenge which was run by Falmouth School of Art. There were ten innovative challenges to keep everyone’s creative juices flowing during lockdown by creating something with what was to hand – perhaps using a phone, computer, a pencil etc. I entered The ‘Postcard’ Challenge in Category C which was for Year 12 students or those in their first year of education. I was so pleased when I found out I’d won the first prize in my category and was given a £500 Amazon voucher. Here is a link to the website of the competition www.falmouth.ac.uk/falmouth-ccc-challenges/prize-winners.

Have you experienced any challenges during lockdown?

I’ve struggled with motivation and the strong feeling of uncertainty for my future since I’ve not been able to visit universities or have the same academic experience as previous students. For me, this has been very stressful to manage but I try to find jobs to do and work to complete because I know it’ll be better if I’m occupied.

How has the College supported you during your time here?

The College has supported me through a lot but particularly with my mental health issues, and I know exactly who to go to if there’s a problem whilst I’m in College.

Do you have any advice for future students?

Make the most of every opportunity. College is a lot more fun and laid back than school so don’t take that freedom for granted. Follow your own voice and try not to be influenced by others.

What are your future aspirations?

I would like to work in creative media somehow, whether it’s in music or art. I’m a lot more of a creative minded person than an academic one, although I’m good at writing too. I’d like to apply for a degree course either in art or illustration.
