Croydon College Level 2 Art and Design students participated in a panto dame costume design competition in November leading up to Christmas. The students submitted a total of 45 designs to Stanley Arts for them to judge. The theatre company received a vast number of designs from other schools, colleges and the general public.

The premise of the competition was to design a fairy dame costume for Stanley Art’s pantomime adaptation of Sleeping Beauty. Competitors were told they could be inspired by traditional pantomime costumes or go more avant-garde.

The variety of designs was huge. Two of our Art and Design students were in the top three designs, with our second year student Larissa Degan winning the competition overall!

Her design was transformed into the costume worn by the dame in this year’s pantomime. Well done, Larissa, on this incredible achievement.
