Last year, as part of a writing exercise to improve their formal writing skills, ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) lecturer, Elaisa Lazzaris, encouraged her students to send a letter to the late Queen Elizabeth II. A lot of planning and excitement went into the letters. After a few hours of research, the students learned how to address the Queen and where to send the letters, which were then sent to congratulate her majesty on her Platinum Jubilee; an historical 70-year reign. Elaisa sent the sealed letters off during the week of the Jubilee.

To everyone’s surprise and excitement, Elaisa and her students got a response from the palace! The ESOL Lecturer stated, “I am super happy and proud of my learners, embarking with me in these crazy ideas. I have sent them the pictures, no need to say they are ecstatic!” See images below:

Congratulations to Elaisa and her learners. This is fantastic news and we couldn’t be prouder at Croydon College. Once again, thank you ma’am.
