We hosted the Health, Social Care and Childcare Fair on 26 May with talks on progressing to university, apprenticeship opportunities, and the blood, organ and stem register.

Legacy Youth Zone, Croydon’s premium hang-out spot for young people, was also in attendance, showcasing potential opportunities, while Gemma Sparks delivered an interactive employability skills presentation.

Attendees could also benefit from a free health check, looking at blood pressure, BMI, and lung capacity, and there were 15-minute treatments on offer, including Indian head massage.

The event included a mini-session on how to communicate in Makaton, the unique language programme that uses symbols, signs and speech to enable people to communicate.

For those interested in childcare, there was a practical task on how to top and tail a baby and properly change a nappy, and Busy Bees recruitment agency was also on hand to discuss jobs in childcare.

Cynthia, one of our student representatives, said: “I love working with kids and helping them to develop their future.

“I’ve started working in a nursery to develop my passion for childcare, having gained my qualifications.”
