A showcase of Croydon College students’ hard work throughout the COVID-19 lockdowns will taking place with a public exhibition next month.
‘Unlocked’, which takes place from 10am-4pm at the College between 20 and 24 June, will feature the work of final year students, whose studies were disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic.
For public view there is no need to book please head to reception between 10am-4pm and you will be shown around the exhibition.
It is students’ first public exhibition since the coronavirus pandemic.
As well as acting as an art exhibition, the week-long public viewing in the Parfitt Gallery will also aim to inspire future students with schools being invited and encouraged to make a visit.
For students, there will be six workshops along with an interactive tour of the exhibition and art teaching areas. The six workshops are:
- Test your musical skills – using College software, create a piece of music exploring your understanding of beats and timing, melody, harmony and musical construction.
- Fashion & Textile Workshop – learn to create a textile design, with staff demonstrating how they use imagery as inspiration for shape, texture and colour, helping to make a unique piece of textile design, using fabric inks and the heat-press.
- Games & Animation – use the Unreal Engine 4 system to design a basic 3D platformer game using 3D shapes to code simple gameplay interactions.
- Principles of Design – Notan – using simple materials students will be introduced to the traditional Japanese design method Notan, which works with the positive and negative, balancing dark and light to create harmony, inspiring a final piece and knowledge to apply Notan design principles to any future creative endeavours.
- Art & Design – Screen Printing – an introduction to screen printing, using screen printing vacuums to adapt a design, experiment with colour and create a one of a kind screen print.
- Photography without the camera! Experience darkroom photography and make a photogram, using a selection of objects to create an interesting composition to be developed into a photographic image to take home.
Any schools wishing to be inspired by a visit to the exhibition are asked to book their place by emailing natalie.oliver@croydon.ac.uk
