Earlier this month, a select group of English students attended the Ravenscourt Arts Theatre for a production of Shakespeare’s ‘The Comedy of Errors’. When the students arrived, they were joined by two other schools and the play was introduced by a stern looking man, dressed in jet black and with silver makeup covering his face. He gave a brief outline of the play, and then it began.

The students were spellbound by the events that were unfolding. For most of them, this was their first introduction to a theatrical production, being radically different to their normal viewing habits.

The troupe of actors performed very well and brought Shakespeare’s comedy to life. The play was about twins separated at birth, cases of mistaken identity and the whole host of associated difficulties that these caused to the characters. However, unlike many of Shakespeare’s plays, this one ended on a happy note as all of the problems were resolved amicably.

The students also had the rare opportunity to mix with the actors at the end, asking them questions about the play, being an actor and how to learn so many lines by heart.

The group thoroughly enjoyed the experience and are looking forward to being chosen for the next theatre visit.
