On 28 September, during National Inclusion Week 2022, Croydon College joined leaders from across the Construction, Finance and Technology sectors and a cohort of young black men for an event in Westminster- A Journey Towards Inclusion: Young, Black and Talented.
Representing the college were Mike Davies, Employability Manager, Abbie Owen, Business Development Executive for Apprenticeships and Viviene Bish-Bedeau, Assessor, IQA Building Engineering Services.
A Journey Towards Inclusion: Young, Black and Talented was hosted by Action for Race Equality’s Moving On Up project, and the Mayor of London’s Workforce Integration Network. DiverseCity Surveyors provided generous support.
The event was aimed at young black men between the ages of 18 and 24 to connect with employers and share their insights into employability and the steps being taking to support them. With statistics showing how young black men are facing disproportionate structural barriers to employment and some of the highest unemployment rates in the capital, the event reminded participants of the necessity for change and how to make it happen.
Nearly 130 people filled the hall with a distinguished line up of speakers, including Rebecca Scott, Global Talent Resourcing Program Manager at Jacobs who highlighted:
At Croydon College, we support diversity and equality. With our wide range of vocational courses and apprenticeships, we want everyone to succeed in their chosen career path. Apply now to springboard your career at Application Form – Croydon College. Or earn whilst you learn with one of our apprenticeships.
