Former Croydon College student and alumna, Ummee Mohamoodally returned to the College to give us an update on what she has been up to since leaving. Here’s what she had to share with us:
What course did you study, Ummee? Diploma in Professional Cookery Level 2.
Why did you choose the course? I chose this course because I want to be a chef and teach one day in the future. Eventually, I want to open my own restaurant.
What did you enjoy about the course? I’ve learned French cuisine, made a lot of dishes, baked a lot and also worked in Chef’s restaurant here at Croydon College. I used to come in 5 days a week even on my days off and help out. It’s been really great. I have enjoyed everything about the course; the theory and the practical.
Overall, how was your experience at Croydon College? My experience here has been great and I’m actually really sad that I won’t be here next year. Both my tutors, Mr Ming and Mr Cooper, have been great and very supportive.
What have you been up to since you left Croydon College? Since I left, I have had a trial at a restaurant because my tutor really pushed me to get a summer job and to get as much exposure in the food industry as possible. I will be starting there full-time soon.
Is there any advice you would give to future students? Don’t give up on your dreams. I’m 28 and I changed my career a year ago so I would just advise everyone to never give up.
Thank you for your time, Ummee. We wish you all the best in your new role and culinary future.
