What it is?
The Croydon Youth Awards is a borough wide celebration of young people who are making a positive impact in Croydon.
Led by young people for young people, the awards recognise achievement, talent, leadership and community contribution across the borough. The event will take place in June and will be student led and student hosted, with live performances that showcase the creativity and talent of young people from across Croydon.
The awards are open to all young people aged 11 to 19 and up to 25 for those with special educational needs. They are inclusive of all schools, colleges and youth and community groups and are designed to be accessible for everyone, including young people with disabilities and visual or hearing impairments.
Why it is important?
Croydon is often spoken about through negative headlines. The Croydon Youth Awards exist to change that narrative.
These awards shine a light on the positive stories, achievements and contributions of young people in our community. They recognise effort, ambition and resilience, while giving young people hope and inspiration to continue striving for their goals.
By celebrating what young people are doing well, the awards help build pride, unity and a stronger sense of community across Croydon. They also ensure that young people have a voice and are recognised, not just heard.
