I decided to do this particular Apprenticeship in Business and Administration at Croydon University Hospital because I had previously gained a legal secretary qualification but, due to my lack of work experience, I was unable to find a job suited to my skills. I therefore made the decision to look for an apprenticeship that would improve my chance of gaining a suitable permanent role. I am currently finding the apprenticeship a very interesting learning experience as I am working in the legal services department as part of a team. As the weeks progressed from the start of my apprenticeship, I was trusted to be given more complex tasks, such as processing claims or sending copy medical records to solicitors with minimal supervision. So far the best part has been attending a court to witness an inquest. My apprenticeship has enabled me to improve considerably my IT skills, such as touch typing and formatting documents. My communication skills have also improved as I have to speak to both internal and external members of staff and I have been able to develop the ability to prioritise my workload to ensure that I meet deadlines. I now hope to gain a full-time position within the NHS Trust as a PA or administrator.
