Course Overview

This course is for aspiring performers, with some knowledge of acting and drama. You will experience an active learning environment where you will be developing your skills as a performer.

You will explore a wide variety of performing arts subjects that will allow you to experience all aspects of working in the performing arts. You will also undertake a range of projects that include script writing, stage craft, lighting, technical theatre, and acting and performing skills.

We have great facilities here at Croydon School of Art, including our very own theatre and suit of rehearsal rooms. Mac Suites with Logic Pro and Pro Tools, as well as a media store with DSLR’s for film and video work. You will be taught by acting and drama specialists and practitioners who use their breadth of knowledge to support your studies.

Good English and maths skills are essential for success in studying and for future employment prospects and so Croydon College ensures that these skills are developed in all learning opportunities.

It’s also important to have good English and maths qualifications and so all students will study English and maths and work towards an appropriate level and type of qualification including GCSE. This will be part of all 16-18 year old students’ Study Programme alongside their main vocational or academic qualification and will be discussed with students at interview

Course Highlights

Throughout your course, you will have the opportunity to participate in numerous trips which include visits theatre productions, backstage visits and to participate in workshops with various performing arts organisations.

You will also be involved in collaborative projects such performance and productions to raise money through creative work for charity. You will have the chance to participate on the enrichment programme which involves working in your group debating and discussing key worldwide topics and getting experience in voluntary action.

The Croydon School of Art end of year shows are a key date when you will have the chance to showcase your best performance work from the year to your family and friends as well as professional visitors.

Career Opportunities & Further Study

Completion of this course will enable you to progress on to the Level 3 Diploma in Performing and Production Arts (Acting & Drama) offered by Croydon School of Art.

Alternatively, you can progress on to employment via an internship or an apprenticeship within the creative arts industry.

Assessment

You will be assessed through a series of performances and coursework that you will produce throughout the year. Some elements of this course involve capable writing skills.

Formal and informal assessment will take place continually throughout the year with individual and group critiques, peer assessment and group work, regular one to one feedback, and structured guidance will help you to develop your skills and learn quickly, allowing for plenty of opportunities for you to achieve your potential.

Entry Requirements

Three GCSEs at grades 3/D; or

A related Level 1 vocational qualification; and

A GCSE at grade 3/D (or equivalent) in English; or

English and Mathematics assessed at Entry 3 or above by College assessment.

A satisfactory reference may also be requested.
