Performing Arts and Music
Mode of study:
University of the Arts London (UAL)
This course is for practicing Music Performers or Music Producers with experience of performing or producing music. You will experience an active learning environment where you will be developing your skills as a performer or producer. In the first year you will explore a wide variety of musical subjects that will enhance and build your abilities as a performer or producer. Then, in the second year, you will develop your specialist skills within your chosen area of music. You will be required to undertake a range of projects within your specialism that may include live sound engineering for college music performances, composing for and recording an album, production skills, performance skills, and industry experience such as working for the college’s record label, Outbreak Records.
You will be encouraged to take an experimental and open-minded approach to exploring ideas that challenge and develop creative thinking and making skills.
This course will help you to decide your chosen music specialism and to then develop that in preparation for progression on to university or employment.
Good English and maths skills are essential for success in studying and for future employment prospects and so Croydon College ensures that these skills are developed in all learning opportunities.
It’s also important to have good English and maths qualifications and so all students will study English and maths and work towards an appropriate level and type of qualification including GCSE. This will be part of all 16-18 year old students’ Study Programme alongside their main vocational or academic qualification and will be discussed with students at interview.
This two year course is equivalent to 3 A Levels.
You will be taught by music specialists and practitioners who use their breadth of knowledge to support your studies. We also have great facilities here at Croydon School of Art, including Mac Suites with Logic Pro and Pro Tools, Digital and Analogue Recording Suites, isolated studios, a range of dynamic and condenser microphones, dedicated rehearsal spaces, and live sound PA systems.
This course will allow you to have the opportunity to perform at various highly regarded venues. Previous students have performed as warm up acts at Fairfield Hall for internationally recognised artists as well as creating performances at the end of year shows within the college.
For producers, you will be able to record musicians from all backgrounds with varying musical tastes, allowing you to become a more experienced producer.
A key distinguishing feature of the college is our links with employers and the ways in which we incorporate this into your learning. Employers attend our popular employability events and you can discuss apprenticeships and progression opportunities in our Employability Hub or in the Apprenticeship Office.
