Course Overview
This course offers a coherent, integrated and supported year of study to broaden your practical and theoretical understanding of art, design and media practice. It aims to provide you with the knowledge, skills and understanding that will prepare you for progression to university study or higher level creative industry training opportunities. Adult learners with some creative experience but without level 3 creative qualifications will find this course of study an important step on their pathway to a creative career.
Course Highlights
You will have access to a range of well- resourced industry standard workshops supported by practicing artists and designers. You will have opportunities to curate and exhibit your work and participate in live creative projects with external organisations. Regular research trips and visits to studios, galleries and museums form part of the course.
Career Opportunities & Further Study
The course is an internationally recognised qualification with a UCAS tariff that allows you to progress to university to study your chosen creative pathway. It will also enable you to progress to higher level apprenticeships and traineeships in the creative industries or in to paid employment in your chosen field. Recent graduates of this course have progressed to study photography, graphic design, animation, illustration and fine art at university and others have chosen traineeship routes.
Assessment
The qualification has two phases, an initial exploratory phase that allows you to experiment and explore progression pathways, and a confirmatory phase where you will complete a final major project that draws upon skills and knowledge you have developed. You will be formatively assessed throughout the exploratory phase. You will receive a final graded summative assessment on completion of your final major project.
Entry Requirements
Four GCSEs at grades 9-4/A*-C OR A related Level 2 vocational course at Merit or higher (if a pass grade is achieved GCSE grades and/or functional skills results may also be considered);
Including a GCSE at grade 9-4/A*-C (or equivalent) in English or Mathematics OR English and Mathematics assessed at Level 1 or above by College assessment.
Art portfolio, containing recent examples of artwork, sketchbooks, photography work, or any creative work you have done. This could be both course work and work you have created in your own time.
Mature applicants may be considered on relevant experience without having the required entry requirements. However, an interview will always be required.
A satisfactory reference may also be requested.
