Course Info16 - 19
Mode of study:
This course is designed for those who wish to work in the construction industry as a manager or professional worker in the field of site research, site management, cost control, or building design. This course is mainly theory based and it will develop the skills that you will have learnt on a Level 2 course.
You will study 9 units each in both the first and the second year. These will cover a range of subjects, including sustainable construction, design and construction technology, building regulations and planning procedures, and health and safety practices.
This two year course is equivalent to 3 A Levels.
Good English and maths skills are essential for success in studying and for future employment prospects and so Croydon College ensures that these skills are developed in all learning opportunities.
It’s also important to have good English and maths qualifications and so all students will study English and maths and work towards an appropriate level and type of qualification including GCSE. This will be part of all 16-18 year old students’ Study Programme alongside their main vocational or academic qualification and will be discussed with students at interview.
This programme is delivered by our fully qualified and professional staff who are all experienced construction practitioners, having worked as site operatives, site managers, and quantity surveyors.
You will have the opportunity to undertake enrichment activities outside of Croydon College, with regular trips to exhibitions such as Eco-Build at the Excel Centre and on-site visits to construction sites.
Each year there is an intercollege construction and building services competition. Prizes and certificates are awarded and winners have the opportunity to enter the World Skills Competition along with other FE colleges.
A key distinguishing feature of the college is our links with employers and the ways in which we incorporate this into your learning. We are especially hopeful about the new Westfield development in Croydon where we envisage a large need for local employees. Additionally, employers attend our popular employability events and you can discuss Apprenticeships and progression opportunities in our Employability Hub or in the Apprenticeship Office.
