Course Overview

Access Level 1 with Functional Skills – Certificate in Progression

This is a qualification designed for:

  • Adults seeking a change of direction because of unemployment or lack of career opportunities in their current employment.
  • Adults who are interested in progressing to Level 2 within Croydon College or to Access Level 2 (Health and Social Care or Science Level 2).

Access Level 1 is a well-established progression pathway onto the HE Diploma at Level 2, and the course consists of;

  • Digital Skills at Level E3
  • Functional Skills English at Level 1 and Functional Skills Maths at Level E3 or L1
  • OCN London Certificate in Progression modules.

 

Students must be completely committed to hard work and are required to maintain full attendance (100%) throughout the course.

  • The Access Level 1 course is delivered over two days.

 

Good English and maths skills are essential for success in studying and for future employment prospects and so Croydon College ensures that these skills are developed in all learning opportunities.

There may be opportunities for adult students to study English and maths as part of your programme, and the level and type of qualification will be selected to suit individual need.

Course Highlights

The staff on the programme are professionally qualified to a high standard and are both friendly and approachable. You will benefit from having a tutor who can provide not only academic support, but also pastoral advice and guidance when needed. One-to-one appointments with your tutor are a regular part of the course where there is opportunity to discuss your progress.

We offer fantastic extra-curricular activities such as Macmillan fundraising and walking for health at Macmillan Resource Centre at Croydon University Hospital and many more volunteering opportunities to support your Personal Statement and CV.

You can also get involved in HIV Awareness Days and encourage people to get tested for HIV.

During your studies, students will have the opportunity to review their progression journey with individual appointments with The National Careers Service.

Career Opportunities & Further Study

Internal progression to Access Level 2 or Access to Science Level 2 or another Level 2 course within Croydon College, progressing towards their career goals in friendly and familiar surroundings.

Assessment

You will be assessed throughout this course using a variety of assessment methods including assignments, role plays, case studies, presentations, leaflets, and projects. You will produce both individual and group work.

Your English and maths will be formally assessed with an external examination at the end of the academic year.

All applicants will be interviewed to ensure that the course is the right choice based on previous educational and work experience.

Entry Requirements

All applicants will be required to take an English and Mathematics assessment, regardless of previous qualifications. You must achieve Entry 3 in English and Entry 3 in Mathematics to be accepted on this course.
