Course Overview

This course helps to prepare learners for working in the music industry giving learners transferable and higher-order skills that are valued by higher education providers and employers, for example performance techniques, communication skills, team working. It also gives them an opportunity to focus on their personal vocal/instrumental technique.

Assessment of the internal and external units for this course is designed to fit the purpose and objective of the course– giving learners the opportunity to demonstrate skills developed in applied scenarios. All units are graded to encourage skills development and performance. Units are assessed using a grading scale of Distinction, Merit, Pass and Unclassified. Grading has been introduced at this level as a result of feedback from users and practitioners of the qualification.

Entry Requirements

Relevant Level 2 qualification or four GCSE at Grade 4-9, one of which should be English or Maths.

If you are a performer you will need to audition 2 pieces on your chosen instrument or as a vocalist. You will need to bring the backing tracks in for the audition or have the YouTube links for the instrumental version of the song. You may also audition your own compositions where possible for the 2 tracks.
