Course Overview

The course allows a new opportunity to develop creative skills and digital portfolio development for the next level of progression to level 3, whilst also improving Maths and/or English GCSE grades if required.

We provide dynamic workshops and lessons exploring creativity and innovation. Students will develop new ways of thinking about Art and Design and other pathways such as illustration, image making and photography.

Students apply research techniques, improve sketching, drawing and painting skills as well as work in ceramics, sculpting, graphic design and print making. Experimental image making and other techniques are developed in purpose-built workshops and studios supported by specialist technicians. We value exhibiting work in our own gallery space.

We develop individual creativity, portfolio building as well as transferable skills such as work ethic, independence and adaptability.

We encourage business enterprise for all creative students which is supported in all activities and lessons.

This course provides the opportunity to improve students’ grade profiles and delivers the building blocks for progression.

Course Highlights

Every year is different for L2 Art and Design and what was recently achieved gives an indication for next year:

This year we participated in workshops with our local Art organisation, TURF Arts, which was delivered by international artists. We were challenged with briefs as part of course work.

We participated in college led creative conferences and talks. Work experience was offered both ‘virtually’ and with local creative agencies and companies. Work experience develops confidence and knowledge of the world of work.
