Course Overview

The occupation involved carrying out advanced skilled work, primarily using timber products, either on a construction site, or in a workshop, creating and installing building components. The advanced carpenter and joiner is able to undertake complex job tasks,  requiring high levels of practical skills and knowledge, in addition to managing their own work and leading small teams.

The job role includes: using timber products to create and install building components – responsible for managing their own and other people’s work.

The delivery of this course includes one day per week at Croydon College.

Job roles after the course could include Advanced site carpenter and Advanced architectural joiner.

Career Opportunities & Further Study

Level 3 advanced apprentices will progress from a Level 2 apprenticeship, or be able to demonstrate the same knowledge, skills and competency levels.

Apprentices must achieve a Level 3 National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) to demonstrate competency in their chosen occupation.

Assessment

Assessment is via on and off the job training. Learners will be assessed through:

  • Synoptic end-test covering knowledge and skills
  • Practical Skills Assessment

Entry Requirements

A-C/9-4 GCSE Maths and English or Functional Skills Level 2.
