Applied Science – Level 2 BTEC Award – September Start

3 GCSEs grade 9-3 (A*-D) or a related Level 1 vocational qualification including, English, maths and Science. Equivalence of these qualifications will be considered.

You'll also have the opportunity to participate in field trips and engage with industry guest speakers. Lessons cover fundamental topics such as biology, chemistry, physics and laboratory techniques, with a focus on how scientific principles are used in industries like healthcare, environmental science and forensics. Students engage in practical experiments, data analysis and problem-solving tasks, allowing them to connect theoretical knowledge with real-world scenarios.One of the most exciting aspects of the course is the opportunity to carry out experiments in a lab setting, gaining valuable skills that are directly transferable to a wide range of scientific careers.

Completing the Applied Science Level 2 qualification opens up a wide range of career opportunities in various sectors, including laboratory technician roles, healthcare support, environmental science and a laboratory assistant
Completion of this course can lead to progression to higher level programmes, such as the Level 3 in Applied Science.

Your progress throughout the year will be assessed through a combination of assignments and projects, including practical reports, scientific investigations and presentations. A significant portion of your assessments will focus on practical investigations, with tutor observations playing a key role in your final evaluation. In addition to these internal assessments, there will be some external assessments in the core units, along with a practical assessment that, combined with coursework, will determine your final grade.
