Mode of study:
Access to HE Diplomas are well established, national qualifications which allow students without traditional Level 3 qualifications to apply for degree courses and enter university.
Our Access to Nursing course runs over one year and is ideal if you wish to progress to university to study on a range of nursing related or health care programmes. The diploma may also be a beneficial qualification for students looking to go directly into employment, where Level 3 qualifications are required.
This course is designed for those who have had a substantial break from education, and who are likely to have experience of working in health care or with the general public.
You will study a range of subjects which will prepare you for your degree at university, including health science, psychology, nursing studies, maths and study skills.
Access to University is an intensive study programme, you must be completely committed to hard work and are required to maintain full attendance throughout the course.
Good English and maths skills are essential for success in studying and for future employment prospects and so Croydon College ensures that these skills are developed in all learning opportunities.
There may be opportunities for adult students to study English and maths as part of your programme, and the level and type of qualification will be selected to suit individual need.
The staff on the programme are professionally qualified with a wide experience of the medical field and are both friendly and approachable. You will benefit from having a tutor who can provide not only academic support, but also pastoral advice and guidance when needed. One-to-one appointments with your tutor are a regular part of the course where there is opportunity to discuss your progress.
There is strong tutorial support on the course and our Employability Hub can assist with your application to Higher Education and preparing for your university interview.
A key distinguishing feature of the college is our links with employers and the ways in which we incorporate this into your learning, with employers attending our popular employability events.
Career Opportunities & Further Study
This Access Diploma will enable you to progress to a health care related degree. Many students choose to progress internally and study a Public Health and Social care degree at the college’s University Centre, progressing towards their career goals in friendly and familiar surroundings.
Many hundreds of qualified healthcare professionals started their journey to success at Croydon College. Former students have gone on to become adult, mental health, learning disability, and children’s nurses as well as midwives, occupational therapists, and speech therapists at hospitals across London and the UK.
You will be assessed throughout the course in a variety of ways, including essays, mock exams, debates, and presentations. These assignments will build to complete your Access to Nursing portfolio.
There will also be in-class tests but there are no formal exams.
All applicants will be required to take an English and Mathematics assessment, regardless of previous qualifications. You must achieve a Level 2 in English and a Level 1 in Mathematics to be accepted on this course.
