Course Overview

This is a qualification designed for:

  • adults who are interest in nursing or science as a professional career.
  • The Access to Science Level 2 course is delivered over two or three days.

Access to Science Level 2 is well established and is a progression pathway to Access to HE Diploma at level 3.

  • Science units – Human Biology and Chemistry
  • Certificate in Progression – Career Planning and next steps
  • Award in Infection Prevention and Control
  • Transferable skills – ICT, academic writing , working in teams, time management, interview skills, CV development are embedded within the course

Students must be completely committed to hard work and are required to maintain full attendance (100%) throughout the course.

Course Highlights

  • We offer extra-curricular activities such as Macmillan fund raising and Walking for health at Macmillan Resource Centre at Croydon University Hospital and many more volunteering opportunities.
  • Programme – Employability training workshops with the Ministry of Defence Education Outreach Programme.
  • Students will have the opportunity to review their progression journey with The National Careers Service.

Career Opportunities & Further Study

Upon successful completion of your course you can enter full-time employment or after completing the Level 3 progress into university to pursue a degree in the sciences.

Career opportunities include: Health and Safety officer, Biomedical Sciences, Pharmacy, Radiography, Ecology, Nutrition and a range of related degrees upon completing your level 3 Access Diploma.

Assessment

Class tutors will use a variety of assessment methods: formal reports, presentations, written assessments, in-class and practice assessments under controlled conditions.

Entry Requirements

All applicants will be required to take an English and Mathematics BKSB assessment, regardless of previous qualifications. You must achieve a Level 1 in English and at least an Level 1 in Mathematics to be accepted on this course.

All applicants will be interviewed to ensure that the course is the right choice based on previous educational and work experience. Every student will need to provide at least one satisfactory reference to support their application.
