What Does a Lecturer in FE Do?

A Lecturer in a trade area teaches both the practical and technical aspects of a trade, such as Electrical installation, Plumbing, Engineering and Motor Vehicle, Carpentry and Multi-Skills, While the role can include classroom-based theory, Lecturers with industry experience bring real-world knowledge into workshops and practical sessions, bridging the gap between learning and the job site.

This role is ideal for those who enjoy sharing hands-on knowledge, want to support learners in developing job-ready skills, and are keen to make a lasting impact on the next generation of tradespeople.

What Qualifications Do You Need?

We typically look for:

 

  •  At least two years of proven experience in your trade
  •  A trade qualification equivalent to or higher than what your students are studying.
  •  GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
  •  Teaching certifications are advantageous, but don’t worry, the college will support you with your teaching career progression.
